Extraordinary Microbes – EM1
Preferably do this regularly every 2 to 3 weeks after the initial doses. If you miss 1 or 2 applications it will not be disastrous.
- Mix 40ml Molasses in a litre of water – preferably rain water because it has no chloramines in it. Town water (SE Qld has chloramines – which harm microbes) One way to neutrallise these chloramines is to make a strong cup of black coffee (A cheap brand is fine) and mix it into the water.
- Add 5 ml of EM1 in the mixture and leave standing in a warm shaded area for 3 to 5 days.
- Mix the mixture into 9 litres of water. For town water place a handful of soil (preferably compost) to bind the chloramines overnight before mixing with the 1 litre EM!/Molasses mixture.
- Let this mixture stand for about 2 hours and then apply to your garden at approximately 3 litres per square meter.
In this way we keep up a vigorous population of microbes in conjunction with the exudates from the roots of your vegetables.
EM1 was originally formulated by Dr. Teruo Higa.
Most organics including animal manures and composts have populations of micro-organisms. Many of these are beneficial upon introduction to the soil, however they are soon overwhelmed by the existing soil microorganisms. Thus, the beneficial effects of micro-organisms introduced with the application of composts are often short lived. But the advantage of EM is that beneficial microorganisms are in much greater numbers, and in optimally-balanced populations when introduced, so remain dominant in the soil for a much longer time.
The effectiveness of EM can be extended in soils by three applications of EM at weekly intervals during the first 3 to 4 weeks after planting a crop. This will ensure that EM populations remain high throughout a critical a period when young seedlings and plants are vulnerable to environmental stresses (drought, heat, weeds, and pathogens). Thereafter applying EM once every 2 to 3 weeks will be sufficient.
The purpose being to give you healthier plants that have a beneficial health effect vis-a-vis plants of the same type not grown with our VegeBooster formula.
